Julie Anne Rhodes with Keith Haring

With my friends Vuk, and Keith Haring at my 30th birthday party in Paris

As if having to cancel my trip to Europe due to a mischievous volcano and British Airways strike wasn’t disappointing enough this week… thelovemagazineblog ran pictures of the UK pre-launch of the Tommy Hilfiger and Keith Haring Foundation footwear collection at the Dover Street Market (which I hated missing).

Created in collaboration with Artestar LLC, the capsule collection contains sneakers and rain boots for women and children, and sneakers for men, featuring artwork from my late friend, artist Keith Haring. The shoes are also available at Collette Boutique, 213 Rue Saint Honore, 75001 Paris, France.

It warms my heart no end to see that Keith’s legacy is still going full throttle. His work is every bit as recognizable to the younger generations as it was a symbol of mine. Most importantly, the causes Keith so generously championed are still it’s benefactors. “The Keith Haring Foundation makes grants to not-for-profit groups which engage in charitable and educational activities. In accordance with Keith’s wishes, the Foundation concentrates its giving in two areas: The support of organizations which provide educational opportunities to underprivileged children and the support of organizations which engage in research and care with respect to AIDS and HIV infection.”

Click on the bottom video under “Jewels in the Kitchen” on the sidebar, or Gingerbread Art to view the video that Tatjana and I made to pay tribute to Keith last Christmas. Meanwhile, I’ll stop pouting long enough to cherish the fond memories.
