Recipes often have words for cooking terms that may be confusing, so I have begun videoing those terms. My demonstrating what they mean is the next best thing to having mom show you herself. The idea is that when you run across a cooking term you are unfamiliar with – you can easily access this glossary of cooking terms at any time, so you can rock out those Personal Chef Approach meals that make it easy to eat healthier, plus save you time and money during your busy week.
There is no longer any need to panic over “but I don’t know how to cook.” Remember, if you can read, you can cook. The ingredients are listed, the directions are written out step by step, and now you have demos of those cooking terms to empower you further!
How To Blanch is the newest of those cooking terms. “Blanch” means to boil or steam briefly to create a crisp-tender texture, and milder, more palpable flavor before we “shock” them by submerging in cold ice water to stop the cooking process.
This helps retain all the vitamins and nutrients along with the texture, and the vegetable’s bright color. Click here to check out my Spaghetti with Broccoli recipe to give the process a whirl.
