It was an intensely exciting experience to watch the record breaking Post-War & Contemporary Art auction at Christie’s. Not only was it the first time I’ve sold a painting – it was also my first auction, so I picked a doozy to attend. The proceeds on Wednesday night reached over $852,000,000.00, with an additional $112,000,000.00 from the day the auction on Thursday (in which my Warhol Heart was sold).

Of course, I’m team Andy, so it was hard to contain the excitement as mom and I watched Warhol’s Triple Elvis reach nearly 82 million, and the Four Marlons nearly 70 million! For an avid art lover, I can only liken it to a gambler watching his horse take the lead and pull way out in front of the other contenders. You just want to scream go, go, GO! I imagined Andy watching from a cloud high above feeling very, very proud.

I think he would have been happy with the auction results on the Heart too. Not only did we achieve a very respectable price – the painting appears to have gone viral with articles in the New York Daily News, Mail Online, and Sunday Express.

I’ll admit, my stomach was doing flip flops! I’m much more comfortable buying, than selling. Plus, sitting on my hands was very hard to do when I saw this Jean Michel Basquiat portrait of Keith Haring amongst so many other pieces I would have loved to own. I had to remind myself repeatedly that there will be other auctions, and right now I have to keep my focus on the Personal Chef Approach.

I want to thank Jonathan Laib at Christie’s for handling me with kid gloves, and all of you who have sent messages of support. Please do not worry about me. I know Andy would want my business to prosper, and the wedding gift simply seemed the obvious painting to let go since I have been divorced for many years now.

A great experience with Christie's

Wearing pearls was another nod to Andy, since he always wore them under his turtleneck

Afterwards, mom and I raced uptown to meet a dear friend (that I’d met through Andy many years ago) for tea at the Carlyle Hotel. Even though we hadn’t seen each other for quite literally decades, in my experience good friends pick up where they left off, and this was no exception to the rule. Catching up with John was glorious and brought an emotionally charged experience full circle to a very happy conclusion.

Since the funds raised through selling the Warhol Heart will go towards bringing the Personal Chef Approach into households around the globe – I thought you might want to watch this video to learn what the value of PCA membership means for you? I know that the best thing that I’ve done for myself in the past several years was to join the PCA membership. I eat better, my complexion looks amazing for a woman soon to be 59. I just need to trim a little off of my caboose to make clothing look a little more chic, but that’s something to work on gradually and to find the best and the safest way to exercise. PCA has gotten me eating more fruit and veg and more apt to enjoy the process of cooking. I’ve realized that I deserve a good meal at the end or middle of my day just like other people.

I’m so happy that you had a wonderful time with your mum in New York! That will be a memory that will bring smiles to both of your faces for years to come. I always think it must be wonderful to go shopping with your mum or sister and have a good time. Truthfully, I kind of envy you, in a good way. I love to shop for clothes and art supplies. I don’t know if my mum would have enjoyed those activities or not, but I like to think that just spending time together would have been what made the most of our time together. Just like you and your mum, I sure the time together was wonderful and the two of you made the most of every moment.

Sending hugs to you and Daisy!
